7 Ups & 1 Down From IMPACT Wrestling (16 Sep)
1. Cage Vs. Alexander Is Happening
Right?
That's the vibe coming away from this match, at least.
Last night's ten-man tag team main event followed a number of multi-man match tropes. It was always going to. There was a standoff between the two units early on, the match broke down moments after, and towards the end, there was a display of everyone's signature offence. It was fine, but you don't need this every time.
What made this so great, though, was the stories it told. Moose and W. Morrissey kept Eddie Edwards in their corner for a duration, weakening him ahead of their Victory Road clash. Ace Austin seemed to evade Christian Cage at all costs until the closing stages, a great piece of professional wrestling storytelling. Early on, Chris Sabin was tagged into the match, but Josh Alexander blind tagged himself in immediately, letting on that their alliance was only temporary.
As for the ending, Alexander again blind tagged into the bout, this time on Christian Cage; Cage Speared Brian Myers, with Josh following it up with a C4Spike for the win. There was a slight tension between the two afterwards, with Christian seeming hesitant to hand the 'Walking Weapon' the X Division Title.
This was the match to lead into Victory Road. All the main stories developed, the in-ring work was up to the rest of the show's standard, and no one looked weak. An exceptional match had it not been for those aforementioned tropes.
