7 Ups & 1 Down From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Nov 14)

2. The Ultimate Sell

Having spent much of the ongoing Raw vs. SmackDown war locked in a state of non-commitment, General Manager Daniel Bryan planted his blue flag in the ground last night, eradicating all doubt surrounding his his mindset ahead of Survivor Series.

The beloved authority figure addressed the fans in the ring last night, and started by taking ownership of his recent assault by Kane's hand. While he didn't agree with Shane's 'siege', he's proud of his brand, and knows they won't falter on Sunday - even John Cena, who's still technically a free agent.

Daniel's focus drifted towards AJ Styles vs. Brock Lesnar. It was a classic sell job from the GM, who put both performers over, before ripping into 'The Beast' without a hint of trepidation. He questioned his intelligence, called him a quitter, and pushed his own champion as the best in the world, stating Styles would "mentally beat, conquer, and defeat" his Universal counterpart this weekend.

This was pro-wrestling 101, and the kind of segment every wrestler should be made to watch in promo class. While Stephanie McMahon and Triple H do nothing but use their power to hog the spotlight on Raw, SmackDown's GM was entirely focused on putting Survivor Series over, and he was full of fiery passion.

A genuinely outstanding segment, though it was outdone later in the show...
