7 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Jul 21)

4. A Maniac, A Wolf, And A Score To Settle

Eddie Edwards' championship celebratory speech was perfect.

Commencing his second run with the title, Eddie insisted that he would be a fighting champion, and would happily defend his newly-won strap week in and week out against anyone who deemed themselves worthy enough of challenging for the gold. This was the exact same champion Eddie was back in 2016, as he took on all comers for his title, from EC3 to Bobby Lashley to Eli Drake, even taking the title abroad to various promotions in England. His first challenger has already been confirmed as Trey Miguel for next week.

Eric Young, fresh from a well-received appearance at Saturday's pay-per-view, interrupted the passionate speech, claiming that it easily could have been Eddie sat in the hospital bed with a destroyed leg as opposed to Rich Swann. Like the new champion, 'The World Class Maniac' was phenomenal on the mic here, something that was much-needed for one of his first post-WWE appearances. A brief brawl broke out between the two, with Eddie even diving onto Young while keeping his cap on(!), but nothing too exciting quite yet.

Surely this is building to a huge showdown between the pair? A few years ago before 'EY' departed for NXT, a singles match between the pair wouldn't have been that exciting. But now that they've both developed these similar characters, it could very well be a barbaric encounter, especially if the World Championship is involved.
