7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's NXT (May 13)

6. I Have Run Out Of Cruiserweight Puns, Sorry

Atlas Nese

Crazy how these matches all feel like they have stakes, isn't it?

Jake Atlas stopping for a chat on his way down to the ring saying it was "do or die" now for his Cruiserweight chances was a low-key, sit up in your seat, rub your hands, and do that small whistle/inhale noise moment. It was that picture people share whenever Twitter beef is brewing, the one of the man doing a funny walk with the chair and sitting down with his popcorn. thisgonbegood.gif etc

Thing is, while none of the Cruiserweight matches have set the house on fire, it's been really enjoyable to understand exactly what everyone involved is fighting for, exactly what the wins or losses mean to each of them and, slowly, piece together a picture of what the payoff to it all is going to be like. Altas and Nese was the perfect example of that.

The two put on a short but technically sound encounter that both elevates Atlas as the winner, but still protects Nese in defeat. The platform these matches has given the Cruiserweights has been a real brightspot of the last few weeks and, whatever program they end up in after this, you'll be far more excited about as a result. Hopefully.

Crazy how UE are celebrating whatculture hitting 1000 podcasts by just recreating what all of ours have been like for the last few weeks. Boys, we are flattered
