7 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's NXT (23 Jan)

5. Forever Mae Young

Io Shirai Toni Storm
NXT

It really doesn't matter what combination NXT throws together with its women's division, they always seem to deliver a contender for match of the night. Apropos of nothing we got Toni Storm vs Io Shirai this week; a rematch from the 2018 Mae Young Classic final that took place at WWE's first (and so far only) all women's PPV.

Mentally snipping out the needless no contest we got here as a result of Bianca Belair's nonsensical interference, the preceding 10 minutes was a great showcase of both women. For Toni Storm, it illustrated why she's been allowed to jump to the front of the queue for a one-off title match against Rhea Ripley. For Io Shirai, it showed why she's either been incredibly unlucky not to land the TakeOver match, or why she has to be the ultimate opponent for WrestleMania weekend.
