Downs…

3. New Day’s Gonna Win, Right?

In recent weeks, the gripe about New Day has been that they finally got into the ring to start the next phase of their heel turn, but they only engaged in singles action against Rey Mysterio, and both Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods lost their matches.

Monday, New Day finally competed as a tag team against Rey and Dragon Lee, debuting a decent generic heel theme and displaying some heel tactics and posturing during the match. They would even pick up the win, with Kofi pinning Rey after some pretty good action.

So, why is this a negative? New Day only won because of chicanery, but not their own. Logan Paul came out to ringside mid-match, setting off alarm bells and telegraphing the finish a kilometer away. Sure enough, Rey ran afoul of Logan outside, and Paul yanked Mysterio out of the ring behind the referee’s back, stunning him enough for Kofi to nail Trouble in Paradise for the win.

If you’re keeping score, this means that the cause of and focus after New Day’s big first win since their heel turn two months ago was Logan Paul. New Day left after winning and Paul gloated and preened around the floor while Rey and Dragon Lee stood dejected in the ring. Making New Day an afterthought when they won their first match after debuting a new theme and new gear is not a great sign.
