7 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Aug 14)

4. Big E's Refresher

It's been odd to hear Corey Graves and Michael Cole claim that Big E's journey is only just beginning as a singles star. They conveniently forgot that he's tasted success on his own before, and had a career that was going place pre-New Day. Big E set things right on the latest SmackDown.

He only needed a 30-second long promo to do it too. That's the sign of someone who knows their character, and recognises what fans want from this run. E noted that he's a former NXT Champion and also held the Intercontinental belt way back when too.

Simple and effective.

Now, E can look forward to a series of matches against bully-boy Sheamus. The Irishman is the perfect opponent for E right now - they'll bring the best out in one another if WWE can resist the lazy comedy tropes they go back to when they're running out of ideas.
