7 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite: St. Patrick's Day Slam (Mar 17)
2. Burying The Tag Division
The Young Bucks' character direction continues to be some of AEW's most muddled. Just when it looks like Nick and Matt Jackson have settled on an alignment and are ready to move forward, something comes along to muddy the waters - and not in a good way. We're now at a point where it feels like rather than dancing in shades of grey, the Bucks don't know who they want their characters to be anymore.
Don Callis interrupted their backstage interview to wind them up, plant the seeds of manipulation, and say they aren't the tag team they used to be. "There's nothing elite about you guys anymore," Callis said. "You've killed your careers."
Fine lines to get under the Bucks' skin, but they're the AEW World Tag Team Champions. That's the problem. AEW presents its tag division as the best in the world, but in burying the top guys, Don essentially shot down the entire group. If the Bucks aren't elite then what does that say of everyone else?
The Jacksons resisted the urge to side with Don's gaggle of bastards later in the evening. Here's hoping they keep treading the babyface path, as these constant character swings are hurting their run.
