UPS…

7. Halloween Silliness

What can you really say about Meta-Four’s hijinks and Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn’s spooky spells they cast on NXT Tuesday night?

NXT itself is the land of silliness. Goofy gimmicks, nonsensical storylines and C-level humor have reigned supreme in the developmental brand for a while now, and that was only magnified with Halloween Havoc giving a bigger excuse for the absurd.

Factor in the superstars involved in the goofiest segments, and it makes perfect sense. Meta-Four is a comedy stable that was dressing up in costume in September, so why wouldn’t they do the same for Halloween? They played it perfectly, dressing as Mystery Inc. (Scooby Doo and company) while searching a “haunted mansion” for Dar’s Heritage Cup. The end result was equally silly, with Akira Tozawa stealing the cup simply to secure a championship match next week.

Fyre and Dawn have been nearly invisible on the main roster, so seeing them do anything on television is a positive, but leaning into the spooky side for Halloween worked well, as did tying them back to the “cursed” WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Confining the truly ridiculous stuff to those characters – it’s not like Bron Breakker, Ilja Dragunov or the Creed Brothers were in costumes – allowed fans to compartmentalize the wacky and enjoy the overall show better.
