Sometimes, viewers have to remind themselves that match quality from contest to contest might vary greatly due to experience levels, especially in what technically is a developmental brand.

NXT boasts some extremely talented wrestlers who actually have a fair amount of in-ring experience, some prodigies, and then some really green superstars who are learning to ply their trade on television for the first time.

The women’s Breakout Tournament finals Tuesday featured two new but promising superstars, Kelani Jordan and Lola Vice, who executed a fast-paced, energetic match featuring some quick, powerful strikes, aerial displays and one big distraction that allowed Vice to pick up the win and earn a contract to face an NXT champion.

While the action was mostly good, it also felt like two women who had rehearsed their dance steps 100 times and went through them with precision, but without soul. They worked their way through the match with very few hitches, but it didn’t feel like a struggle between two women trying to win a tournament. It felt like two women trying to hit all their spots as cleanly as possible.

However, remembering that neither woman has more than 50 matches to their name yet, one must applaud the effort and recognize that both women could have bright futures ahead of them, and this was a positive step forward.
