7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (2 Dec - Results & Review)
3. WrestleMania Season Starts Early
When a two-hour WWE program opens with 20-plus minutes of talking and a heated pull-apart segment, you know they’re building something big… like WrestleMania season big.
CM Punk opened the show by quite literally signposting that this was all angled towards 'Mania by pointing at a non-existent sign and saying that he can see his path(s) to WrestleMania and invited fans to come with him on this journey.
This brought out Seth Rollins, who lamented how he made a mistake in not dropping Punk the first time he saw him back in WWE, or when he ran into the Second City Saint after Hell in a Cell. Punk revealed that while Seth has been thinking about him for the past six months, he doesn’t think about Rollins at all. He wanted Seth because he was a champion, but Rollins isn't anymore, so Punk couldn’t care less.
Rollins clearly wanted a fight, but the two only got to shoving and wrapping each other up before Sami Zayn and Jey Uso broke it up – not referees and officials. Things only got worse from there, with Seth turning his anger on Sami, who defended Jey before being forced to defend himself. Rollins and Zayn sparred over Punk, Roman Reigns, and their roles in the Tribal Chief’s ascension. This all gave way to the match that closed Raw, as previously mentioned.
Overall, great stuff threading together four wrestlers (with more to follow!) and personal issues between most of them. Sami even made sure to mention that he didn’t want Punk on their WarGames team, a line that could easily come back to bite him later with the Punker.
