7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (2 Sept - Results & Review)

2. Bron Brings Jey Back To Earth

Once upon a time, Jey Uso was a serious wrestler and a legit contender for a singles title. Then, “Yeet” happened.

While Uso has become an insanely popular superstar with an electric entrance and unmatched connection with the crowd, the bell eventually has to ring, and his work between the ropes has suffered as he’s played into the crowd yelling “Yeet!” after every punch. Similarly, his promos have degraded to him saying a handful of words and pausing to let the crowd “Yeet!”, rendering the promo just a call-and-answer.

Thankfully, Bron Breakker brought all of that crashing down in one backstage segment, interrupting Jey to mockingly congratulate him and urge him to continue “chasing after Mami and yeeting” everywhere. He wanted to give Uso one last chance to drop out of the Intercontinental Championship tournament, because if he wins the four-way next week, Breakker promised to destroy him. He also brought family lore into the mix, which was a nice touch.

This immediately sobered Jey up, who dropped the smile and antics and got right in Bron’s face. That’s the Jey Uso you want to see here, a guy who can have fun but also can get deadly serious.

The confrontation might have telegraphed the finish of next week’s four-way, but it also served as a peek into Breakker’s thinking, trying to get Jey to drop out because he represents a serious threat to his IC title. This was a solid exchange and should be an excellent title match if and when it happens.
