7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (23 Sept - Results & Review)

Ups…

7. The First Seeds Of Dissension?

Let’s give a pass to the women’s tag match pitting Unholy Union against Damage CTRL. It was much better than their last effort and got the result correct, but that’s about all there is to say about it. Damage CTRL – Iyo Sky in particular – is looking like it’s coming more into form as a babyface act.

But the real story in the women’s tag division came in a backstage promo before the match between Damage CTRL and tag champs Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill. Belair gave Iyo her props for defeating her clean last week, noting that she “caught me slipping,” and offered a rematch, which Sky said she would look forward to in the future.

Iyo then turned her attention to the tag titles, which sent Jade into motion. Cargill noted that Sky might have “caught my partner slipping,” but that didn’t mean Damage CTRL was suddenly in line for the tag titles or that they would stand a chance to capture them. It was that little reference to Bianca losing that could be a small nugget, a tiny piece of shade being thrown between two dominant, powerful alpha females.

Even if that wasn’t intended as shade, there still is that story beat to pick up, if Jade perceives Bianca as the weak link for whatever reason. That’s all it really will take for the two to start to fracture, rather than some overblown, melodramatic miscommunication spot. That moment can come later and be the last straw rather than the first misstep.
