6. Gunther Continues The Tease
For the past several weeks, Gunther has repeatedly rejected Sami Zayn’s overtures and challenges for a World Heavyweight Championship match. Monday night, he changed up his approach.
Sami had just eked out a win against Imperium cohort Ludwig Kaiser when Gunther stalked to the ring. Unlike previous encounters with Zayn, the Ring General wasn’t wearing a suit; rather, he was in his gear, wearing the title and looking like he wanted a fight. When Gunther started by saying he’d seen enough and thought this was the right place and right time, it felt like fans could finally be getting their title match.
The notion of an impromptu world title match seemed improbable, but it also felt perfect for Gunther; what better time to offer Sami what he most wanted just minutes after he emptied the tank against Kaiser? Zayn would be a fool to reject the match, but he’d realistically stand no chance in his weakened state.
Instead, it was s all a ruse, with Gunther laughing and once again denying Sami a title match, pissing off fans and Zayn alike. Gunther clearly feels that Sami doesn’t deserve the match, but he’s eventually going to have to face his foe rather than stringing him along.
