7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (28 Feb - Results & Review)
1. Cody’s Chamber Segment Better Be Big
One thing's for sure: WWE must have something monumental in store for Elimination Chamber. If not, then it'll be extra confusing that they've let The Rock and Cody Rhodes chew up so much time on TV in recent weeks. Thankfully, Rock got to the point quicker on Friday's episode, but his involvement in the WrestleMania picture is still a bit hazy.
After all, Cody Rhodes is current WWE Champion, has money and status, is about to headline 'Mania for the third year running etc etc. What can The Rock offer him to justify Rhodes being so conflicted about things? Again, as said previously, every story deserves time to shake out, but something feels off about this as things stand. Hopefully, there’s a huge bombshell at Chamber to make things worthwhile.
It'd be understandable if some fans viewed the whole exercise as a drawn out excuse for Rock to come back and force his way into 'Mania plans even when it doesn't make a lick of sense. His “I love you” stuff is hollow after last year’s shenanigans too. He literally beat the hell out of Cody heading into WrestleMania 40, and then he tried to stop him from becoming WWE Champion on night two.
Currently, their plot isn't rewarding those who gobbled up everything WWE had to offer during the road to 'Mania 40, and that's a shame. Rock going overboard with the Dusty material does suggest he's toying with Cody's emotions before something bigger happens though.
Get those fingers and toes crossed.
