7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (28 Feb - Results & Review)

2. CM Punk Said The Word

Logan Paul

Punk called Logan Paul "boring", which kinda summed up the revolving door promo segment heading into the men’s Chamber match. Drew McIntyre, Damian Priest, Seth Rollins, Punk and Paul all put forward their claims to winning. Fair enough, but nobody really said anything of any value and the segment ended with Punk chasing Logan away. That was it.

Meanwhile, Priest and Rollins stood around awkwardly inside the ring and didn't seem sure what to do with themselves. Perhaps the only redeeming quality here was Paul coming out to John Cena’s music and tricking the fans, but that wasn’t enough to save the segment. It is worth mentioning though, because it exposed the untouchable Cena’s retirement tour as the part time gig it is but wasn’t framed as.

Oops.

That'll surely come back up in promos post-Chamber if Cena and Logan are locking horns at 'Mania. If not, then it was a fun insert that almost (aaaaaalmooooost) saved this segment from the trash heap. Sadly, it wasn't nearly enough. Yes, there were some giggles to be had when McIntyre was poking fun at everyone and Punk was trolling everybody in sight (including those who weren't there like Cena), but you've seen this promo train one million times before.

There are only so many times wrestlers can look surprised that they've been interrupted when it happens every other week. Go home episodes before PLEs need something a little more inspiring than this sort of thing. The women's Chamber match build showed the way later. At least it ended with some intrigue.
