7 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Fyter Fest 2021 Night 2
6. It's... Chavo?!
AEW deserves props for recognising that the Vickie Guerrero/Andrade El Idolo pairing wasn't working and pivoting accordingly. This has been one of the promotion's great strengths since launching: if something isn't clicking with the audience, they listen. They make the changes.
Andrade brought out Vickie's replacement, Chavo Guerrero, during an in-ring segment with Tony Schiavone. This column will reserve judgment on the pairing until a few more weeks have passed, though the returnee was hugely over in Texas, his home state.
When Death Triangle came out, angry that Andrade had mentioned them the previous week, El Idolo tried to sow discord by claiming the Lucha Brothers were working for PAC. He invited them into his fold, encouraging Fenix and Penta to abandon The Bastard. Refusing, Death Triangle then hit the ring, driving the heels off.
Why Chavo was introduced as Andrade's mouthpiece only for El Idolo to do the bulk of the talking anyway is a valid question. Nonetheless, the segment clicked with the crowd and at least puts some much-needed intrigue on Andrade.
