7 Ups & 6 Downs From Impact Wrestling Hard To Kill 2020
1. Stodgy Opener
Ken Shamrock vs. Madman Fulton wasn't the worst match of all time, but it's not the sort of bout you'd expect to open an Impact pay-per-view. Typically, the first match of these shows is a more fast-paced bout, such as the Ultimate X Match from Homecoming or the multi-man X division matches from Rebellion and Slammiversary.
Instead, we were treated to roughly ten minutes of what was essentially an MMA fight with a few wrestling moves interspersed throughout. Shamrock used such an abundance of mixed martial arts manoeuvres that Fulton seemingly forgot who he was, as he started going for takedowns and such. Eventually, he did find himself, chokeslamming Shamrock into the mat, but he would also soon find himself trapped in a kimura lock. What was unique about this submission is that Shamrock also had Fulton's other arm trapped, meaning he had to submit using his head. Never see that these days.
Other than that creative submission, this just wasn't anything too special. Yes, one of the competitors in the match was 55 years old, but Ken was able to put in a decent match with Moose. As stated, it wasn't a bad performance from either man, just a little slow to get things kicked off on a high. On a side note, Madman Fulton's shoulder reportedly came out of its socket during the submission. If there's any truth to that, then best wishes to him.
