7 Ups & 6 Downs From Impact Wrestling Hard To Kill 2020
2. Farewell To The Machine
If the reports are to be believed, then former World Champion Brian Cage is heading for All Elite Wrestling. Assuming that is indeed the case, then Hard To Kill vs. Rob Van Dam may have been the final Impact Wrestling 'match' for 'The Machine'. Match is in inverted commas because, well, it just wasn't a match.
As Cage was making his entrance for the hotly-anticipated first time ever clash, he was grabbed from the crowd by RVD's other girlfriend, with Van Dam then unleashing an assault aided by both Katie Forbes and a steel chair. Cage appeared to suffer a busted mouth upon being struck with the steel, with a Van Terminator seemingly knocking him clean out. He was taken to the back, and that was that. No announcement made or anything.
When you consider the way Ortiz and Santana left the company with a hero's farewell, it's a massive shame that Brian Cage didn't receive the same sort of goodbye. It makes Rob Van Dam look strong in the meantime, but he's Rob Van Dam for crying out loud - he doesn't need anything to help get him over. Cage did some amazing things during his time in Impact, so it would've made sense for him to get a grander final moment.
Keep in mind, this may not actually be his final appearance for the company, but with the way things went down here and the rumours that are swirling around, it's a fair judgement to be making.
