7 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Raw (Oct 25)

4. Same Hackneyed ‘New’ Persona

Queen Zelina Vega

You had to wonder if WWE would do anything unique or interesting with Zelina Vega being the first WWE queen, but we got our answer right away.

Zelina demanded she be reintroduced with vigor, then spoke in a fake British accent that came and went multiple times. She talked about being a loved and feared queen and demanded that her subjects – the fans – bow down to her.

In short, she did everything every previous King of the Ring winner in recent years has done. KOTR used to be a stepping stone for wrestlers, a launching pad for them to get into title pictures and compete in bigger matches. Recently, however, it’s just become part of the wrestler’s persona – they wear a crown, carry a scepter, and talk about ruling the WWE universe. That’s it.

And lately, the wrestling royalty loses and/or is overmatched in a lot of their bouts. At least here, Vega won her match against Doudrop, albeit with a scepter to the head. Had Zelina lost, this would have been a huge down.
