7 Ups And 1 Down From UFC 245

1. Up - Welterweight Warfare

Despite month's of trash talk and build-up, there was a little a bit of worry among fans that the UFC welterweight title fight between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington might be a letdown. However, it was clear within the first few minutes that these two rivals were only interested in standing toe-to-toe and looking for a knockout.

It was a close and bloody battle between the two, as both fighters had their moments during the scrap. Covington landed a bunch of flurries that caught Usman and stunned him briefly. However, the champion's ability to land powerful punches and front kicks to the body helped him slow down Covington's chaotic pace as the fight went on.

The real turning point of the fight happened when Usman landed a brutal right hand near the end of the third round. According to Covington, the punch broke his jaw and, despite having a brilliant fourth round which he probably won, it was quite clear that he was compromised. Usman sensed that his opponent was hurt and put the pressure on him during the fifth round, ultimately finishing Covington using strikes with 50 seconds left on the clock.

Up until the finish, it was an extremely close battle between two of the division's best fighters. Although Usman was able to end the fight decisively, this is definitely a fight where no-one would scoff at a rematch in the future.
