7 Ups And 10 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (June 3)
2. Battle For The Over-The-Hill Championship
Make your own jokes, but the “first time ever” match between Undertaker and Goldberg is 15 years past its sell-by date.
We’re going to see a match between a wrestler whose longest match in the past 15 years is less than seven minutes, and a wrestler whose body is breaking down to the point where his matches are about 75% smoke and mirrors at this point.
Undertaker is one of the greatest of all time, but his last really good matches were four years ago. Goldberg’s specialty is the short, basic match that doesn’t expose his limitations – and that was his M.O. 20 years ago.
Taker showed up on Raw to deliver a promo – squeezing it in before the show ended – about how Goldberg needed to bring his A-game or he’d face his demise. It was a fine promo, but as with all of these Saudi Arabia “dream matches,” they were announced first and then the “heat” was built around them, which is just plain backward.
Maybe this will be a 30-second special, with 15 minutes of ring entrances. They can set a record for dollars paid versus time spent in the ring.
