7 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (Feb 17th)
1. Alex Riley Feels Irrelevant
When Alex Riley left the commentary NTX booth to battle Kevin Owens last year it was a commendable move to get back in the game and I thought he did a decent job in the mini-rivalry. After an injury layoff, Riley is back again with a more dishevelled look about him. This week he battled Tye Dillinger. Riley is most famous for being Miz's sidekick five or six years ago, and it just feels like his time has come and gone. The move into commentary was something that gave him more longevity with the company, but in an era where the best indy talent in the world have been signed and there's promising rookies coming up all the time, I don't know where Riley fits into the picture. Him being on this week's episode reminded me of seeing Rick Martel on Nitro in 1998 in the sense that I was watching someone who used to be relevant and had a place on TV but now just feels like his time has passed and it's time to move on. They're telling a story with Alex Riley, I just don't care about it.
