The minute Von Wagner found himself shoehorned into an NXT Championship match on his first night as part of the former black and gold brand roster, it didn't take a genius to come to the conclusion that some folks in the back had big plans for all things Wagner.

Despite sticking out like a sore thumb in that initial fatal four-way introduction, Wagner has since gone on to establish himself as an unwanted ally of sorts, intervening to assist a reluctant Kyle O'Reilly over the last few weeks in his quest to see off Pete Dunne and his mountain of muscle. It was all leading to the unlikely duo teaming in a contest against the former NXT UK Champion and soon-to-be SmackDown star Ridge Holland this week, and the end results weren't actually half bad.

Wagner is still as green as they come, but it's becoming increasingly more understandable as to why he's in the position he is. He's a big lad, moves well in-between the ropes, and a second generation talent to boot. What the future holds for this storyline remains to be seen as Wagner was able to earn the 'W' for his side by clobbering Holland with a nasty chicken-wing slam. Can O'Reilly ever truly trust again after his Undisputed heartache? Or will Wagner show his true colours sooner rather than later?

There's also the question of what this all means for Pete Dunne. Holland will no doubt be given some time to shine on Friday nights - again, he possesses a lot of what makes Wagner so appealing to the top brass - but the Bruiserweight is in danger of becoming a gate-keeper at just 27-years-old. Call him up or give him a belt, otherwise you're wasting a vibrant talent's time and ours.
