7 Ups And 3 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 39 Night 1

WWE WrestleMania 39 John Cena Austin Theory

Austin Theory desperately needed to capitalize on his WrestleMania moment against John Cena on Saturday night. After all, not everyone gets the opportunity to wrestle a legend in a title match to open 'Mania.

But Theory did not take advantage of the moment, battling Cena in a very basic, unremarkable match that saw the 16-time World Champion laying around for a while before making a comeback, only for a referee bump and a low blow to seal Cena’s fate. Yep, Mr. Hustle, Loyalty and Respect was felled by a low blow and a single A-Town Down.

While in control, Theory did little to stand out, other than jawing with the fans and mocking Cena. He hit his spots fine, but there was nothing memorable about it. Quick, do you remember any spot from the match other than the low blow, STF with a visual tap-out and the A-Town Down?

Memo to WWE: Giving Theory a big WrestleMania win over John Cena is not what’s going to make him a megastar. Don’t be shocked when fans still don’t care about him on Raw on Monday.
