WWE has done a lot in recent years to improve women’s wrestling’s standing. We’ve come a long way from pillow fight matches and the like. In fact, we just saw a cage match in NXT between Shayna Baszler and Io Shirai that was pretty good by most accounts.

But the no-DQ match between Brandi Lauren and Shotzi Blackheart at Evolve 131 reminded us that women in other promotions can brawl just as well as the women of WWE. In fact, Lauren and Blackheart’s match, which included some early interference from Natalia Markova on Brandi’s behalf, had some stiff moments.

The match wasn’t a classic, but there were enough solid moments – an apron powerbomb by Brandi, Shotzi diving into a chair stack and wiping out – that we’ll give this one an “up.”
