3. Wasted Opportunity

We’ll say more about the King of the Ring tournament triple threat later, but we’ve got to dive into the wasted opportunity that was Ricochet’s involvement in this tournament.

Since being called up, Ricochet has seen doors open and then slam shut. He was thrown into a surprisingly electric tag team with Aleister Black, only to watch them lose multiple tag title opportunities. He then got a singles push and won the United States Championship, only to lose it three weeks later.

The KOTR tournament was shaping up to be a great opportunity for Ricochet to open some eyes. He defeated Drew McIntyre in an awesome first-round match, then faced Samoa Joe in the second. Looking at the brackets, it logically looked like he could beat Joe and defeat Corbin in the semi-finals to topple three bigger men en route to facing someone like Elias or Andrade in the finals.

It could have represented a kickstart to a major push for Ricochet and harkened back to the 90s and early 2000s when KOTR winners would typically receive a nice push afterward. Instead, Ricochet is out and presumably has nothing to do this Sunday night.
