7 Ups And 5 Downs From WWE Great Balls Of Fire

Ups...

7. Technical Difficulties

WWE has tended to look far too rehearsed and scripted, even when attempting to look unpredictable. But the writers made things look good Sunday night after the ambulance crash.

One really nice touch was sending Curt Hawkins and Heath Slater out for an impromptu PPV match while firefighters arrived and attempted to free Braun Strowman. Both men sold how unexpected it was really well, putting on and adjusting gear as they walked to the ring and just kind of going through the motions.

It was clear that the match was a time-filler to give the announcers a chance to talk about the crash and whether Braun was OK, and to allow rescue workers to arrive. So it served a nice purpose, and it added a sense of realism to the scene. Hell, even the finish of the match occurred off-screen, giving more of a feeling that it was just there to fill time and the outcome didn’t matter.
