7 Ups And 5 Downs From WWE Raw (May 25)

2. The Joke Is Played Out

Clearly when WWE put the 24/7 Championship on Rob Gronkowski, they couldn’t have envisioned that just two weeks later, he would come out of retirement and sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Between that and the ongoing global pandemic, it’s been nearly impossible for the football star to appear on WWE TV to defend his title, leaving R-Truth to carry the flame for more than a month, confusing Gronk for longtime teammate Tom Brady. Monday, Gronk returned to WWE via a taped interview where he delivered a passable promo about defending his title and that he’d see Truth coming.

Given the circumstances, if WWE is going to keep the title active in any sense of the word, then they need to get it off Gronkowski very soon. The 24/7 Championship was reviled at first, became a bright spot on Raw, then sunk back into the mundane. Now it’s just vanished.

Please get this figured out WWE, because the current situation isn’t working. Hopefully, Gronk’s presence on Raw Monday night was a sign that something is happening soon.
