7 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE Raw (Jan 13)

4. Becky Finds Fire In Liquid

If you ever watched “Rocky III,” you know the story of how Rocky Balboa won the boxing heavyweight championship in II, got complacent as champ and lost, then had to rediscover his fire, his eye of the tiger, to win the title back.

Becky Lynch indirectly has been alluding to that story in her feud with Asuka, noting that her rise to the mountaintop has led to WWE brass protecting her as she racks up mainstream attention, interviews, magazine covers and the like. Meanwhile, the Raw Women’s Champion still hasn’t been able to beat Asuka in any match.

This has led Lynch to doubt herself a bit, that even though she’s The Man and the champ, she still calls Asuka the best wrestler out there. And then on Monday, they signed the contract for their title match, only for Asuka to spray her with green mist and blind her.

Lynch flopped around screaming at being blinded, then grabbed a mic to note that she had a fire lit under her, and she was going down swinging, and she was taking Asuka with her.

It’s not being told as strongly as Rocky III – and Lynch hasn’t lost her title because she was overconfident – but there are some elements there to appreciate.
