At their heart, wrestling announcers are hucksters. They are trying to sell you something, even if it means bending the truth to make a point and make a sale.

But Michael Cole will occasionally feed us a line of BS so over the top that it has to be called out for just being ridiculous. This time, it came during The Undertaker’s entrance. Cole called the upcoming Super Showdown match between Taker and Triple H as the culmination of “one of the greatest rivalries in the history of sports entertainment.”

Umm, what?

Michaels/Hart. Hogan/Andre. Hogan/Piper. Austin/McMahon. Sting/Flair. There’s an endless list of rivalries that dwarf Undertaker/Triple H.

And really, this has been a one-sided rivalry. In 34 one-on-one matches, Triple H has only beaten Taker three times, while the Deadman has defeated the Game at three WrestleManias alone.

This isn’t some legendary, mythic rivalry. It’s two guys with a combined age of 102 who are respected veterans from a bygone era tangling one last time. Sell that rather than making stuff up and insulting our intelligence.
