7 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (September 17th)

5. A ‘Proud’ Champion?

Keep in mind as you read this that WWE is still treating Roman Reigns as a babyface champion.

Roman came down to ringside to open Raw and noted that Sunday night didn’t go as planned, alluding to Brock Lesnar interfering and causing just the second Hell in a Cell match in history to end in a no-contest. But, he observed, he “woke up this morning” and was still Universal Champion.

So… he’s proud to emerge from that match as champ only because Lesnar interfered? A real champion would have come down to the ring, announced there was unfinished business with Braun Strowman and told him they should finish it that night. And then he would turn his attention to Brock.

That would have been the best way to handle that situation, not smirk and announce that he woke up cuddling the title because neither he nor his opponent could stand up. But hey, Reigns is the most polarizing figure in WWE today, so maybe he just needed to bolster his heel street cred a little.
