When WWE announced a new cruiserweight division, those who watched the Cruiserweight Classic this summer were excited to see high-flying, fast-paced action come to Raw. You couldn’t help but feel optimistic that these wrestlers would up the game in WWE.

Fast-forward two months since they debuted on Raw, and the cruiserweights have fallen into having your typical WWE match… albeit between smaller competitors. The match Monday between Sin Cara and Brian Kendrick was OK for what it was, but it was pretty pedestrian and slow, with no real flow.

It’s a far cry from the CWC, or from WCW’s cruiserweight division during Nitro’s heyday. For whatever reason, the moves, pace and impact that made the cruiserweight matches feel special and unique this summer have been muted, and it’s really starting to show. Perhaps a scenery change would help…
