7 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE King Of The Ring 2002
3. Down - Brock Vs. RVD Is Too Short To Be Impactful
In fairness, both men had wrestled tough matches earlier in the night, but still, for a King of the Ring final to determine the #1 Contender for the world title at SummerSlam, this just doesn’t have any sort of impact. Neither Brock nor Van Dam have any time to do anything spectacular, and the finish is so abrupt as Heyman distracts Van Dam in order for Brock to hit the F5 and pick up the win. It’s so abrupt that the crowd don’t have a proper reaction to this young beast coming in on his first pay-per-view and becoming the #1 Contender. They’re just like “Oh. Okay then.”
The good news is that next month at Vengeance, Van Dam and Brock have a match for RVD’s Intercontinental Championship. We’ll find out then if the two have real chemistry.
