7 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE Survivor Series 2019

5. Asuka, Charlotte Break Down

One of the annual gripes this column has during Survivor Series each year is how rivalries are immediately pushed aside for the good of “defending the brand,” which is just a silly motif.

So when a rivalry bubbles up during an elimination match, you’ve got to pay special mind to it.

Asuka and Charlotte Flair actually have a lengthy history with each other, though WWE seems to downplay it from time to time. Flair ended Asuka’s WWE undefeated streak at WrestleMania 34 and has had the upper hand on her multiple times. Recently on Raw, Charlotte has battled Asuka in tag team action a few times, reigniting that feud a bit.

So when Charlotte blind-tagged herself into the match Sunday night, Asuka took offense, and Flair’s ego – yelling, “Get out of my ring!” – only worsened it. The Empress of Tomorrow left the ring, but returned seconds later to nail Charlotte with the green mist(!), blinding her and allowing Lacey Evans to pin Flair.

It would be nice to see these two now engage in a serious singles feud, because it could provide some really good matches, and it could serve as a #1 contender’s match if WWE so desired. Regardless, let’s hope there’s some follow-up Monday night.
