8. Iron Man Match Falls Short Of Hype

This was a tough call. Parts of the Iron Man match between Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins clicked really well, and it looked like an exciting contest.

But other parts of the match were dull and plodding, with a lot of resting. There were periods where it felt very forced, with Rollins going up early and Drew McIntyre tipping the scales. That idea wasn’t a bad one, but it was poorly executed. Rollins went up 2-0 early, so McIntyre jumped in the ring and pummeled Seth until the referee DQ’d him and gave Rollins a 3-0 lead. Then Drew continued to assault Rollins without further penalty, and the ref even allowed Ziggler to cover him for a pinfall.

Then the match dragged for a good while, until some hot pinfall attempts, which ultimately led to a tie. That forced the predictable overtime, and McIntyre interfered again, without consequence, allowing Dolph to escape with a 5-4 victory. But where was GM Kurt Angle, who had just restarted the match? Surely he could have nullified the pin because of McIntyre’s interference.

As a match, it’s wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t what you’d expect from these two. It’s a gentle “down,” as some might have loved it, but it just didn’t meet expectations on this end. Your mileage might vary.
