7 Ways TNA Resembles A Dying WCW

5. The Top Stars Are Gone

Fans remember late 90s WCW for the incredible amount of star power they had in their possession. Their arsenal was deep to battle the best of the WWF. They had Goldberg, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Roddy Piper and Bret Hart under contract. All huge money-drawing talent. However, absolutely none of them were on the card for the company's ironically named final pay-per-view: Greed. Within the past few years, TNA has said goodbye to Booker T, Nash, Hall, Hogan, Rob Van Dam, Matt Morgan, Sting, Christian, Mickie James, Victoria, Jeff Jarrett and A.J. Styles. That's a lot of big names that that have disappeared. Their biggest names now are basically Kurt Angle, Mr. Anderson, Bully Ray, Jeff Hardy and MVP. For the most part, it's a good thing that TNA is relying on younger, cheaper stars. But it wasn't a conscious decision, it was out of necessity. They were only put in that place after finding out that time and time again that no matter who they brought in just didn't matter. It was poor booking that ultimately made sure that every single former WWE or WCW brought in didn't make a difference to the ratings. At the end of WCW's life, we were left with a bunch of young, inexperienced guys and a couple bigger names like Sting, DDP and Ric Flair. There really isn't many (if any) talent that WWE would like to get their hands on from TNA. Let's just say if WWE were to buy out TNA and their tape library, we probably wouldn't get a Shield vs. BroMans feud anytime soon.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
