7 Women Who Won Men's Wrestling Titles

It may be a man's world, but sometimes the trend is bucked.

The WWE Women's Revolution has objectively been a great thing for professional wrestling, as the presentation of WWE's female talent has evolved from borderline offensive to a more respectful position. Women's wrestling is booked with respect these days; we are far removed from the days of bra and panties matches - and the rest.

Even with this in mind however, professional wrestling is still heavily male-dominated. Things have improved, but the women remain something of an addendum to the everyday business of the squared circle. The majority of performers are men, the majority of titles are male-centric, and the big stories tend to go to the chaps.

A number of these titles come with exceptions, however. On a few occasions a female has shocked the world by defeating an incumbent to become the holder of a championship usually reserved for male competitors. Almost always this comes with talk of hilarity from the announcers, but the achievement must still be respected.

CHIKARA is an exception to all of this, as it rarely differentiates between men and women in its booking. That promotion has wrestling ants though, so the specifics of male and female humans are of little importance.

Here are seven women who won wrestling titles usually reserved for men.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
