7 Worst One-Off Pay-Per-Views In WWE History

5. The Bash (June 28, 2009)

The year 2009 played host to not one but two pay-per-views that weren't brought back for a second installment. Yes, The Bash is a takeoff of The Great American Bash, but it is considered its own event and does not carry the lineage of the classic WCW and WWE annual extravaganza. It was never explained why the event was dropped the "Great American" adjective, but either way, the change in name did not garner it any more success. The Bash was one of those shows that had the tough task of following an extremely entertaining Extreme Rules event from only weeks prior. Granted, the card wasn't entirely terrible, but most of it was forgettable and merely set up the much better Night of Champions. Randy Orton and Triple H had yet another encounter over the WWE Championship on this show and despite the Three Stages of Hell stipulation, it was still the same old, same old from the two seasoned veterans. The event marked the first ever one-on-one matchup between Jeff Hardy and CM Punk and while it was well-wrestled, the fluky finish left fans disappointed. Even still, it set the stage for the remainder of their rivalry as well as Punk's heel turn several weeks later. John Cena vs. The Miz, a feud that had been built up for a number of months, only received five minutes of in-ring time. The sole saving grace of the show was the Mask vs. Intercontinental Championship match between Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio, a contest considered to this day as one of the best bouts in years. The Bash did 178,000 PPV buys, down 18,000 from the year prior. WWE's version of The Great American Bash has never been stellar, but The Bash completely ruined any chances of the annual event ever making a return to PPV.
