7 Worst One-Off Pay-Per-Views In WWE History

4. Invasion (July 22, 2001)

Wwf Invasion In a shocking turn of events, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon purchased World Championship Wrestling in March 2001. The newly aqquired stars of WCW would proceed to invade the then-WWF and run rampant over the entire roster. It was an angle made in wrestling heaven, leading to fans speculating what dream matches they were to bound to see finally come to fruition. Extreme Championship Wrestling, which was also brought out by WWE earlier in the year, joined in on the fray before long, siding with WCW to form The Alliance. The ongoing war between WWE and The Alliance set the stage for Invasion, a one-off event in July that would pit wrestlers from both factions against each other. On paper, it seemed like a dream come true for wrestling fans, but the actual execution of the show was flawed. The biggest issue with the event (and the invasion as a whole) was that none of the top-tier guys from WCW made the jump to WWE. Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Goldberg, Rey Mysterio and several others didn't debut until the following year, leaving The Alliance to consist of mostly midcard talent. The only two memorable matches from the show were the Hardcore Championship match between Rob Van Dam and Jeff Hardy and the Inaugural Brawl in the main event. RVD and Hardy would produce an even better match the following year and the Inaugural Brawl didn't feature much star power. The event failed to live up to the lofty expectations from fans and would basically sum up the WCW/ECW invasion in a nutshell: a disappointment. This was never meant to be more than a one night only PPV anyway and no other installments were ever planned, but it was still seen as a failure.
