7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (Apr 16)
4. Roman Dead.
All right, so from a personal standpoint, I loved seeing Roman Reigns get annihilated as if he was in a cartoon. And considering Braun Strowman has been backing down from challenges left-and-right, they needed something to make him seem like a threat again. While turning over an ambulance is certainly in the realm of absurdity, it accomplished the goal of being memorable and giving the big guy (no offense to Ryback, of course) something relevant to do.
However, there were a couple of things I wasn't too keen on. Having Roman thrown off the platform and landing on his face, and not being a bloody/broken pile of goo in a flak vest kind of took away a bit of the heat they were building up. Roman can kick out of some chokeslams, but you would think concrete would at least go over on him.
The bigger problem is how Strowman got such a huge babyface reaction from first-degree ambulance abuse. One of my earliest wrestling memories (and perhaps life memories) is Sgt. Slaughter blasting Hulk Hogan in the face with a fireball on syndicated TV (it went down after WrestleMania 7). I was pretty upset, thinking my favorite wrestler had his face melted off and all that was left was a blonde skullet. I can't even imagine if Slaughter been cheered for that right after, and if the crowd had chanted "You deserved it!" at Hulk, I may have been thoroughly traumatized.
That's not taking a knock at the fans, but damn...it's been said a million times, but if attempted murder can't get Roman sympathy, then uh...it may be time to turn this guy.
