7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (July 2)

3. GFW’s Impact

Something fishy was going on with Global Force Wrestling lately. Not the good kind of fish either, like a salmon or something. This was a dead fish found by the side of the road and you’re not quite sure how it got there because, really, there isn’t a lake around for miles.

Impact is now GFW. That's going to feel weird for awhile. Impact wanted to get away from TNA and have a fresh start. Makes sense. Except for the fact this is about the worst fresh start possible. For starters, the show is still going to be called "Impact", which is going to make people think of Impact the wrestling promotion, you know, the very thing they're trying to distance themselves from.

The bigger point is TNA was a badly damaged brand. Impact was a damaged brand too. How long until the same thing happens to GFW? Minus Dixie Carter and Vince Russo, it's the same team who never made the promotion a true competitor to WWE. Together, they squandered millions of Panda Energy's dollars and failed in absolutely every way to give the promotion any kind of hook or identity. Changing the name of the promotion and going with a neon green color scheme isn't going to matter.

You do have to give credit where credit is due. Somehow, Jeff Jarrett has done it again. He pulled off the impressive feat of creating another wrestling promotion, not making it financially viable, and then finding someone else to invest THEIR money into the project to keep it afloat. Well played.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
