7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (June 25)

5. Reverse Psychology

Baron Corbin

WWE seems to assume that all of their fans have either just started watching their product or are too stupid to catch on to their well-worn tricks.

For example, if in a title match an announcer says "We have a new champion!" that is a dead giveaway that it's not the actual finish. And if someone loses every match headed into Money in the Bank, that's a great indication they're about to win the briefcase. It’s basically a swerve that people see coming.

Corbin hadn’t won a match on TV since May 9, which was in a six-person tag. He hasn’t won a singles match since Apr. 4. Then you’d have to go back two more months in time for when he had a win prior to that. From a storyline standpoint, Corbin was a cold act. However, many fans still assumed he was going to win because of the fact that he kept losing. When Sami Zayn bragged about beating him multiple times that was a giveaway.

The idea is that you make the eventual winner look so weak that a win is surprising. Instead, it just gets the wrestler's new phase off to a lukewarm start. Just ask Damien Sandow how well that works.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
