7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (May 14)

7. Please Stop With This. Please?

Randy Orton Sami Zayn AJ Styles
WWE

Sami Zayn is suffering because Sami Zayn doesn't feel like a person anymore. He’s no longer the underdog in all of us, he’s an annoying next door neighbor from a bad sitcom. It’s understandable why some characters go through major overhauls over the course of their careers. Jinder Mahal needed a change to become relevant. When Mordecai went away, Kevin Thorne was born as a vampire. That was fine. Sami didn’t need a transformation. He needed some wins.

Somebody in the back really loves seeing him as an annoying pest. They don’t see that there’s money (or at least there was) to be made in the character. They don’t appreciate that he got over in ROH and NXT. He must have rubbed somebody the wrong way and now his annoyingness is his act on-air. That’s insane. On Game of Thrones, would the writers make Tyrion a neurotic mess if Peter Dinklage really was behind-the-scenes? No. Because it wouldn’t be good for the actual character and it would ruin how awesome Tyrion is.

In wrestling, they say the best acts are the real person turned up to 10. But you’re supposed to dial up the positive things about them, not the negative. That's why they amped up the superhero aspects of Hulk Hogan in his heyday and not the racist parts of him.

Hopefully, Vince McMahon stops finding this version of Zayn so funny and goes back to the one that people actually like.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
