7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (May 14)

5. America Rulez

LAX And Veterans Of War
Impact Wrestling

Can people just stop hating on America...in professional wrestling? Jinder Mahal doesn’t like the country. Kevin Owens doesn’t like it. Rusev isn’t much of a fan either. Neither was that Iron Sheik guy.

Impact Wrestling is about to air from India. GFW (blech) is/was supposed to be “Global.” So why does everything have to come back to pro-America or anti-America angles? I’m American and I’m beyond tired of it. I don't think Australians are getting too worked up about the whole ordeal. This week on Impact, L.A.X. (who were basically babyfaces a couple of weeks ago and trying to lead the crowd in “L.A.X.” chants) suddenly hate America. Again. They did that about a decade ago too. It was more interesting then.

L.A.X. is one of the best things going in the business today, but they’re being used to put over the far less interesting Veterans of War. Instead of taking any sort of novel approach to the feud, Dutch Mantell tore out a page from his notebook in 1987 and is doing it again. So suddenly, out of nowhere, a dude with a giant flag was waving it around in the front row on Impact. Nobody had a problem with him bringing it into the building. Was Jim Duggan working security?

It was just uncomfortable to watch. A lof of minorities don’t feel like the current climate in America is all that accommodating (this really amped up in...oh, let’s say November of 2016), so to push the group as bad guys because they don’t like the country is bad booking and a bad understanding of other cultures. But for a company that handed out a bunch of those tacky “Make Impact Great” red hats not long ago, this type of writing is sadly fitting.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
