7 Wrestlers Who Quit WWE Over Angles
6. Hulk Hogan
During Hulk Hogan's match with The Rock at WrestleMania X8, it was as if we were once more in the peak of Hulkamania, as the assembled audience in Toronto's SkyDome, their collective childhood memories unlocked, cheered the supposed villain on in an electric swing of emotion. Gone was 'Hollywood' - the 'Hulkster' was back.
About a year later, Hogan's actions were again very familiar to long-term fans - but for much less organically beautiful reasons. After 'The Immortal One' beat Mr. McMahon at WrestleMania XIX, for which he was 'banished' from the company, a mysterious but strangely similar figure turned up on SmackDown. Brandishing a blue mask, patriotic tights and very distinct mustache, the unknown interloper announced himself as 'Mr. America' - he was definitely not Hulk Hogan.
This skit went on for a month. Unfortunately, Hogan failed to see the funny side - irony didn't get him over - and after unveiling his face to the crowd after the 26 June episode of SmackDown went off the air, he quit the company. There was also an issue with low payouts, but it was probably the Mr. America mask that tipped Hulk over the edge.
