7 Wrestlers WWE Released Who Deserve Another Run
6. Alex Riley
Poor Alex Riley. A talented guy with great looks, Riley seemed a dead cert to rise through the ranks and end up with a major title run. But a series of injuries and disjointed appearances meant the WWE never quite had a handle on how to book him. Feuding with Michael Cole being a particular case in point.
However, Riley did manage to shine briefly before his release. Sporting a rougher look and a more aggressive gimmick in NXT, he started to look like a wrestler who might finally live up to his potential. Unfortunately, he remained on the fringes, and when Vince made his annual purge of talent in 2016, he was cut from the roster.
Unlike other released superstars, Riley avoided the indies and has taken a break from the ring. But he's retaining links to the industry by starring in the Netflix wrestling drama, Glow. He's also kept on good terms with the WWE, praising both Vince and Triple H in recent interviews. A strong second run for A-Ri isn't out of the question then, just as long as creative don't make him a member of the Miztourage.
