2. Austin Aries

The planets seemed to be in perfect alignment when Austin Aries arrived in 2016. With years of success in TNA and ROH behind him, it seemed like a prime time for Aries to finally grace a WWE ring. Sadly, his time there was not a successful one.

An initial push in NXT was scuppered when a serious eye injury sidelined him. Quick to utilise Aries' excellent mike work, he was employed as a colour commentator on the newly created 205 Live brand. This set him up to make a return to action in the division, and challenge for Neville's Cruiserweight title in a series of excellent PPV title matches.

Aries came up short each time though, and reportedly unhappy that he wasn't being given the chance on Raw or SmackDown, Aries and WWE parted ways earlier this year. Whilst his departure is still fresh, we can only hope it's temporary. The possibilities of Aries taking on a top guy like John Cena or re-starting his TNA AJ Styles feud are mouth-watering. We truly hope that double A's batteries haven't gone flat just yet.
