7 Wrestlers WWE Released Who Deserve Another Run

1. Cody Rhodes

The fact that Cody Rhodes has never been a WWE Champion is absurd. He has all the required ticks next to his name: the looks, the charisma, the talent, and the legacy. Yet the company failed to exploit these points, instead choosing to hide him behind masks, moustaches, and face paint.

Rhodes seemed destined for greatness though. After winning two Intercontinental championships (his first reign lasted 236 days, the seventh longest in WWE history), the signs were that he was heading to the top of the card. But creative found new ways to keep him down, eventually foisting the ill-fated and ultimately lazy Stardust gimmick for him. Despite his insistence to drop it and let him wrestle under the Rhodes name again, he was refused and he left the WWE in 2016.

Rhodes has been a key fixture on the worldwide indie circuit since his release, wrestling high-profile matches in companies such as ROH, NJPW, and WCPW. He's an undoubted big draw, and it'd be crazy to think that Vince wouldn't eventually bring Rhodes back to the fold on his own terms. Perhaps then, we'll finally see a WWE Champion crowned with the Rhodes name.
