7 Wrestling Characters I Read Way Too Much Into
2. Brock Lesnar
Bullying is a far more complex matter than we like to admit. Regardless of whether it happens at school, in the work place, or on the street, bullies aren't bullying for no reason. More often than not the aggression comes from a place of real insecurity, a gaping void that needed to be filled with love but instead got clogged up with violence and hate.
Brock Lesnar didn't stand a chance in this respect. He was given the name 'Brock Lesnar' after all, and from an early age he resembled a big hunk of ham come to life. Love was what Brock Lesnar needed to get through those difficult early years, but instead he received only laughter. Brock promised that one day, somehow, he would make sure he could never, ever be bullied again.
Then, Brock began to grow. Being a mass of humanised pork helped him, and he started to feel somewhat more confident. To give himself further protection against bullies, he started amateur wrestling and found himself to be more than adept. He grew, he grew, and he grew, but despite this was still nervous when it came to standing up for himself. We all need help sometimes.
Enter Paul Heyman. Lesnar no longer needed to talk as well as defend himself, and could concentrate simply on fighting people. The security and love that Heyman gave him meant that Lesnar was free, free to head out and take revenge on a world that didn't give him a chance. Violence is strangely addictive. There was no turning back.
Or he's just a mercenary fighting guy from South Dakota.
